You can replace the slider on the jacket yourself. Organize a comfortable workplace with good lighting. Take care not to lose the small details. Of the tools we need: a small screwdriver and pliers.
Of the spare parts, the upper parts of the old zipper will come in handy. Rather, metal fasteners, called stoppers. They prevent the runner from popping up. If the jacket originally had metal fasteners, you can carefully remove them with a small screwdriver and reuse them.
The quality of the fittings, unfortunately, leaves much to be desired. It happens that the jacket is still completely new, but the lock does not work. Determine the reason. Perhaps the slider just “carried”. Then everything is simple. It is enough to tighten it on both sides in the lower part. Do not overdo it - the metal is very soft. The plastic slider will not work, it will have to be unambiguously changed. Let's check our work by buttoning and unbuttoning the jacket several times. Lightning does not disperse, which means that the repair is completed.
If it was not possible to fix the defect, we will change the slider. Remove the old slider from the braid.
Carefully remove the stopper with a small screwdriver and pliers. Remember that the stopper is made of very soft metal. Almost gently straighten the antennae of the retainer and try to maintain its original shape, do not straighten the stopper. And visually remember how it was installed.
Dress a new slider on the tape of lightning. Sometimes it can be done easily and quickly, sometimes it takes some time. Of course, a certain skill also helps. If it doesn’t work out, we steal the jacket, release the end of the tape and freely put on the slider. We sew it carefully, as it was.
We put the lock in place. The jacket is ready.
If the jacket has a plastic lock with plastic stoppers, we carefully tear off the plastic stoppers using round-nose pliers or flat-nose pliers, being careful not to damage the fabric, and put metal ones in their place after replacing the slider. By the way, recently manufacturers began to make special marks on the “stop” of a new runner on stoppers of plastic zippers. It is very convenient, it is not necessary to tear off plastic clamps. Take a closer look.
If at the initial examination it is clear that the cloves of lightning are missing or the lace is broken, then replacing the slider will not help, the lightning will have to be completely replaced. You can go to the workshop, or you can do it yourself if the house has a sewing machine and you are friends with it.
